The Gecko...

Hello...

To those who know me - and to those hate me...

Can I open a mono - I mean a dialogue on my little trimaran here...

Folks at work have not yet dismissed me as a drunkard crazy man - I am still married - and I have funds from the recent sale of my boat...

So here I bare my armpits and bleeding knuckles to the world and ask this...

AM I CRAZY - why should I build an enclosed trimaran as I propose...

Why should I do anything aside from eating potato chips in front of my Sat. TV...

OK - I am out...

Peel some layers off my onion...

Lets get these forums going again...

SH.

Sean,

Life is too short to get all willy nilly about a project as important as this. This could be the defining moment in your life. You could go down in history in ambiguity or this could be the moment when Sean Herron steps out of his onion skin to reveal the next Herreshoff.

Yes Bergalia, I spell rum with an "e". Sorry, private joke. This forum has definitely been a bit too dry lately.

I think you should start on it immediately. The cockpit accomodations should be modified to accept a companion though. Do you you have Ms. Jolee's phone number? I've misplaced it and have forgotten her shoe size. Do you think that the ASCII code on the sail will be accepted by the type committee? I've got a blown Force-5 sail I can contribute to the cause.

Seriously, though, it looks good to me.

It's a tough decision though. Boatbuilding..or..cable TV washing over your body..or..boatbuilding.. or.......

But don't put too much stock in to my opinions. I'm still into amateurish driven strip-built methods. And please don't take offense at any of my comments. My last post sent a member into PM mode and I just don't know if I can handle another emotional tragedy such as that.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

PS. The trick is to get your wife to think it's her idea.

Very Cool Design

Kind of reminds me of Bolger's 'his and her schooner' but taken to the multi camp.

Also kind of like a mini 12 without the heavy ballast and the need for a elaberate trailer.

It seems like the age of the 'personal sailcraft' has arrived.

Single occupant sailboats designed as much for comfort as much as for performance seem to be popping up like mushrooms. And I think its a good thing.

I've got one too. (see 'my own design' thread). Mine is nowhere near as elaberate as this design (or as seaworthy or as fast), but it is in the same spirit.

I can imagine new generations of sailors cutting there teeth on boats such as these. Learning that sailing is not complicated, difficult, or expensive, but very much the contrary.

Lots of luck with your project.

Bob

PS- My only concern is the CA of the sail may be too far forward and therefore push the very fine bow down too much. If that happens, you can go to a boomed lateen sail with a moderate (45 to 60 deg angle) which would move the CA further back while keeping the same mast location.

The bottom looks to have to much rocker. Perhaps you could look at keeping the bow point curve below the water line. This will with the boyancy pushed forward in the bow.

Maybe an easy-rig or and easy-rig with a top bar to hoist a squared top sail on.

With tramps going out to the ends of the amas, you have the deck area needed to catch some rays.

An idea that has been bouncing around in my head for awhile, Bond some foam to the outside of the hull pannels after you have them all stiched and glued up. Then fair these blocks to round out the hull. This would add extra work but perhaps give a faster hull with more displacement for the same draft and width. Impact protection also. Downside is the boat would be heavier.

Overall I think it is a cool design.

I like it. The pontoons could do with being angled out about 10 degrees so that the centrelines are vertical when heeled. That is a minor detail, though. (I might also prefer rudders on the pontoons).

Looks good to me, now you've just got to work out how to control it!!!

Yeah I know...

Hello...

The record is simply to go faster than than my old keel boat - in the smallest boat possible - and still remain upright so I can drink and fiddle with caps and corkscrews...

Also face forward so I don't get a cramped neck...

I have not decided on the crossbeams yet...

Cheers...

SH.
