Gallery Designs....WOW!

Does anyone else go to the bottom of the page to the gallery and look at the hundreds of designs there? WOW, there are some really cool renditions and concepts there! As well as some real boats..... Which one is your favorite?

Yes. Several are in contention for favorite. Trying to choose that would make my head explode, there is so much talent.

I think you're right. I looked at hundreds and can't remember who posted what,I'll have to pay attention. One was a trawler style catamaran at 42 ft I really liked! Makes you think about what could be....

And, when you consider that I haven't posted any of my designs yet.
Because I can't design.
But if I could.
Think of the potential.
Gee Wavewhacker do you think I may be whacking more than my wave here.

But seriously I hate people with talent.

It makes me feel soooo not cool.

I didn't let my lack of talent stop me from posting my design, or at least a rough draft of a concept.

I guess a boat designer is an artist with an understanding of engineering. I can draw eye candy and if money were no object have it built correctly....but money is an object I'd rather keep....

It's obvious that many of the designs in the gallery will most likely never be built, but still fun to look.

Cost is virtually independent of shape and structure. It is a function almost entirely of the complexity of the systems.

Probably more correct to say that a boat designer is a hydrodynamicist who may have a particular style. There are two very distinct parts to a boat one below the water where art doesn't belong at all, and then there's the style above the water, Sheer on upward.

A really sensible style often looks boaty too because it's simply practical, it never goes out of fashion and has it's own appeal.

The stylists/artist often ruin the practical side of boat handling and no art really needs to go into a sensible design. So art is definitely not a prerequisite for good boat design.

We can engineer just about anything that fits within the engineerable envelope. But most boat designers follow simple procedural rule based design and don't actually engineer anything.

I wish you hadn't put it quite that way. It's not always clear what will remain below the water and what won't. and a blank bit of canvas is still considered to be part of a painting, is it not?
