Yes there's quite some latitude in the UK. I've done wood/epoxy 'developments' of pre 1950 designs that have been enthusiastically embraced as 'historical replicas'.

I find your comment about "true colours" rather insulting. The book "Working Boats of Britain" will allow to justify scantlings of historical replicas. You started the post asking questions a student should have answers for, and then get agressive when someone points out that claiming you "designed" a boat means all the answers you ask for should already have been answered. Insults may satisfy your ego, but do not give you any stature as a self describes boat designer.

i have been documenting & calculating scantlings for near 30 years, yet you imply i cant,
Iain Ougtred called me a designer, i didn't , until today i thought you were a good bloke, but i dont care for your patronising, arrogant attitude,
you sneer at lloyds rules, we built lulworth with a lloyds surveyor, using those rules

That is an outright lie. Where did I say anything against Lloyd's rules?

It is an old book that has been superseded. I told you to get the latest edition. Nowhere is there anything against Lloyd's rules. I didn't imply you can't calculate scantlings, you posted that you don't know how to do it.

...peter, don't be too hard on Gonzo, I too thought from your first post that you were asking for help, maybe it was just the way that it was written, you obviously know more than the comments sort of suggested, sorry mate.
