| Freedom 40 Kat Ketch center cockpit/steering I was wondering if somebody here could help me: My steering system broke down recently. Now I could just replace the parts, but I'm really wondering if the wire in conduit syustem which was in place when I bought the boat in 2000 was original(The conduit forms 2 90degree angles which shouldn't be the case after the edson specs.). The boat was built in 1979. I sailed her from Trinidad/Carrebean to Thailand, crisscrossing the south pacific for 4 years and she was behaving very well...except the steering system. So, does anyone know how she originally was steered ![]() |

| Freedom 40 steering I own a 1981 Freedom 40 Cat-Ketch "Fantasy", and live aboard on San Francisco Bay. My vessel, hull # 60 came with hydraulic steering from the factory. At least that is what I was told. I'm not familiar with the system you describe. I'd love to speak with you more about your cruise. How she handled, sail combinations etc. Jay Glen svfantasy@gmail.com |
