Hello Alik

thanks for the reply

The designers of the Drascombe Lugger and Paltus are both dead now, of course.

The on-going issue with this design is the inboard rudder set-up, which requires the rudder to be lifted clear out of the water well before beaching, which means no steerage control at a fairly crucial time. Failure to do this can result in a bent rudder assembly as the kick-up is only partially effective - and this damage has indeed happened to several people. Safety issue ? Certainly can be, but more of a nuisance most of the time.

But - I respect your views about tinkering with someone else's design.

Regards,

SAE........

My boat Ratty is a modified (different hull form) takeoff from the original Drascombe, size is between the Lugger and the Longboat at 20' LOA.......anyway we have an outboard kickup rudder which is very handy when coming into a beach or going over shallows.......
