i wanted to reply to gonewalkabout regarding brians concept but only with an a-mast.... i thought this was the original question...

could it be possible that you just mount the boom on deck like in a configuration like this:

just not only mount the boom low on the mast but completely on deck?
the mainsheet-mastrunners will have to be fixed to the intersections of the A-mast.... should work - i think...

nice concept of yours... although i am not a very big fan of multihulls...
