"Float your boat" school cardboard boat project I'm a highschool physics student and we've been given an assignment in which we have to build and race a boat made of only cardboard and tape. I don't know the first thing about boats- not even primitive ones- and would realllly appreciate some help on where i could find a simple design idea. thanks ![]()

More information. We need some more information, is the boat on a model scale, or does it have to carry someone or more people? Are there size restrictions? Is it going to be a rowing, sailing or motor boat? Perhaps you can post the race rules. In this thread are some suggestions for a ply boat contest: http://boatdesign.net/forums/showthread.php?t=11130 Would like to help you thingk about a cardboard boat but need more input.

oh. we have to race it across a pool (ive no idea how large the pool is) (again, oars must be only made from tape and cardboard) and there will be two of us paddling from inside- both weighing around 110 lbs. the maximum measurements are 2m x 2m. i hope that helps and thanks again =)

Cardboard cat Hi Katermalin, I converted the drawing Solrac made for this thread http://boatdesign.net/forums/showthread.php?t=11130 to jpg format. I think it is the right way to go for you also, if allowed i would use cardboard tubes like the ones used to send posters by mail for the beams and oars I would make the hulls a bit wider to carry your weight.

Let's see if this can help a bit, posting some details on the subject: -> 3 sheets of plywood 8' x 4' -> 4 pieces of 2" x 1" x 10' wood -> 2 pieces of 1" x 1" x 10" wood - some tape, nails & a hammer (don't forget the pirate's flag on top)
