Epoxy will not burn by itself, it will distort, lose grip on substrates, caramelize, but not burn in the usual temperatures you see in a burning boat. If you hold a mapp gas torch to it (epoxy) it will smolder, change color, and even look like it's burning, but remove the flame and it'll just smoke and stop.

If you mix aluminum oxide with the resin as an over coating or in the laminate, you will dramatically reduce the "fire" risk. It also makes sanding it smooth a real pain in the butt. Also the aluminum oxide will act as a heat reflector if you use enough.

Log onto WWW.WestSystem.com and check out their user's guide and Has. Mat. labels. It covers the information you want.

Hi,
one thing you may want to look at are intumescent paint finishes. These expand and form an insulating non combustible layer when exposed to an open flame and are good enough to provide a one hour fire ratinjg under some building codes. That said, other contributore are correct that the hull material is way down the list of items to be worried about.
All the best.
David

I would try to understand her concerns. Do you have cabinets over the stove at home? Find out the clearance and see if you can match it in the boat. Can you put fireproof tiles behind the stove on the boat? I would take some small steps like that to show her you are listening to her concerns and addressing them.

If it really something that you need to address with her, you should be able to use something like this around the Gally area.
