finding the arc between two points

This might get a little off topic but does anyone else out there think the true arc deckbeams look too bulbous? I have always put the majority of the curve in the center of the beam and let the curve flatten out as it nears the gunwale. No math involved, for the pattern I take a board, mark the max width needed, drive two brads, mark the max crown in center, drive one brad, bend a batten and play with the points in between until it looks right.

Unless it's a small camber, I think I agree. If small, it's ok to look at, only the water really notices.
