Faster Jon boat

Hi everyone,

I have a 16ft alum. Jon boat w/ 70hp evinrude. It will do 39/41 mph / gps.
My ? was if I took 2x5 alum.box tubing and welded it on the bottom of the boat to form a set of skies (one on each side).Reducing bout drag from 50" to 10" of contact it should speed it up a considerable amount.

My concern is turning! Do you think it would want to knife in the corners??
I do alot of catfish tournaments and 39 MPH just cant keep up with a Ranger!!! Just looking for that little edge! thanks for your time!!

I don't know if there would be enough lift to get it up onto the boxes.

If you're going to do that, you might as well turn it into a hydrofoil, it would probably be easier to work out the shapes and there is more info on the web.
