Fast $20 two masted sail boat of the past

Food for thought from Vietnam circa 1962. Cost $20 at the time and lasted 5 years of commercial (constant profit-seeking) use. Very light and sails fast.
Slot in bow stem is for sliding "leeboard" which is lowered for windward sailing in many of these shallow draft Vietnamese vessels.
Detail shot of similar wooden junk with stem/leeboard raised.
Now, please somebody use aluminum tubing and coated dacron fabric or something more clever and other new stuff to make one and let us see it at speed....

Wow, very similar. It would be interesting to fool around with the hoisting bow/leeboard and hoisting adjustable rudder as on the VN version to see how well you could make it go upwind.
