Fake Pirate Ship or Ship Wreck Replica

Hi Guys and Girls,

I am hoping that somebody on here might be able to point me in the right direction. I'm looking to commission a fake priate ship or Ship Wreck made from foam, plastic etc. Basically products that would not look of place on a movie set or in a Theme park. Anybody know of any good individuals or companies working in the area. I can appreciate that these are not "seafaring" vessels so might be on the wrong site !!!
thanks in advance,
John

Fake anything is fairly easy. Check out the local movie set/stage show builders in your area.

Welcome aboard . . .

The question is, is this a boat that looks like a pirate ship, or a prop that looks like a pirate ship?

If the later, then a good prop guy can do something for a fraction of the cost of an actual boat (less than 10%). If you want a boat, then there are some restorations, and antique ships available. However a full restoration on a boat like this could easily run in the millions., depending on the size.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the Replies.... Its a fake pirate Ship "Prop" I want, not an actual boat so apologies for not being more accurate. I Think Battans work is amazing but I guess its his work minus the ship. Unfortuneatly there is little in the way of movie set designers in Ireland but there a couple of companies in the UK that might be able to assist.

Just make 2 dimensional plywood props based on his(BATAAN's) photos. You should give him the artistic credit, though.

For what purpose is it..??

Although a real ship is not required the cheapest way might be to hire one that is for sale.

Here some in your region. One of them was in a movie before, and this one (in the UK from ITV for the Hornblower series) is just sold, but maybe the new owner would cooperate?

Good luck!
Angel

@ Angelique,
Thanks for the response. Those boats look amazing and if I had the funds I would dive straight in but this is for a land project so a real working pirate ship is not required.

@ Hoytedow,

One again, thanks for the response Its looking likely that we will do as you suggest, make the boat from steel and plywood and have some "set designers" paint it, etc. My preferred option would be to not only credit Baatan but maybe commission him to actually design and or build / paint the vessel. BTW, its for a childs playground.

@ Bataan - Hi Bataan, if you read this you might let me know if the above scenario might be of interest you.

I've sent him a PM about this.

To avoid PM-spam you have to be up to five posts and wait for a day or so to be able to use the PM feature of this forum, so soon you can use it yourself.

Cheers,
Angel

Perhaps you could give us a layout/diagram of the present playground.

The stuff I worked on was designed by Hollywood art department people and we were given plans for the most part. The 3"=1' scale INTERCEPTOR model of the LADY WASHINGTON I built for P1 was just a boatbuilding job from the plans of the original ship, strange, but pretty straightforward, as were the rest of the miniatures (up to 30 feet long).
The sets and ships I was involved in operating in the Bahamas and LA were, again, designed by the Art Department and built by the Construction Department.
I would be glad to provide such a film-based theatrical pirate ship for our friends for about $1.3 million dollars, plus or minus depending on accessories.
If our friends truly want a child's playground, they should either find the design within themselves, or commission a designer, carefully chosen. I am not him.
Collect lots of photos of the things you like, build a steel frame on a steel barge and clad it all with wood. Go to your local film industry and theater professional to paint it.
I make cheap horror and action movies now that do not involve pirates or boats and thoroughly enjoy just sailing boats out in wilderness areas, not building them any longer.
This was 3 days ago.
I have no idea who the other degenerates are.
