European rules for a small boat builder...

Hi,
I am designing small boats, say 3 or more meters. I also want to build a few for clients. I have tried to understand what I might have to do in regard to ISO and CE rules and regulations, but it looks like a ton of work and costs. There are a lot of small boat builders in Europe I would guess. How do they do this? Any concrete instructions, etc. would be much appreciated!!!
Grant

Grant, for such small boats certification is simple and can be done by testing. One needs to arrange Owner's Manual, GA drawings; check-lists will be filled by inspector. Stability and flotation tests would be required; scantlings are not required.

Actually there are few options. The procedures are presented in RSG guidelines.

The CE certification is pretty straightforward. There are several options given for testing or meeting standards. You can also provide alternate means of meeting standards.

Thanks all, there are a ton of documents there...and versions... any pointers to the key ones I should look at. Also I see that I still would need to go to a local CE certification authority... any idea how much they would charge for a one off boat, built for sale?

Smallish vessels like you intended can be "self certified" by the manufacturer..
