Nurbs surfaces are slightly different then parametric surfaces. I'm not sure how to explain it fully since I'm not much of a techno . The boat is a knock off of Slocum's "SPRAY". I've changed the Deck structure from the current rendering to accomidate 6' standing room in the cabin, ASAP I'll submit a rendering of the cabin and interior fittings. I'm looking to make it a comfortable live-aboard for 2. BTW thanks on your comments on the model - Its one of the loves and dreams of my life.

HOWdie, in more question. When you're using your software, what type of files can you export?

Rhino supports all the major 3d formats from 3ds, iges, SW, LW, ghs and so on and so on. From the discussions in the Rhino Forum, however, it appears that iges and 3ds exports have less bugs both on export and import.

is it possible to get an iges file of that boat then? I mean, I don't know if it's "freeware" or how you got it.

BTW, I've thought that IGES is the most complete file format when you're using 3D.

I'm not sure I'd call it "freeware". I imported a bmp of the basic lines from the lines drawings in Tellers "The Voyages of Joshua Slocum, and Lofted the lines from there. The lines are free, the model I'm not sure of yet. It's a work in progress and I've put a lot of blood swear and tears in it. Maybe for some form of consideration based on what your use would be. If for private use perhaps yes without consideration, if for commerical - I'd want some monentary consideration.

When you convert bmp.>dxf are you using Corel Trace? This is a cool tool but i hate to use it for the simple fact that the resultant trace is so messy. I use corel 10 at home and 9 everyday at work in the sign industry. We or I use it to convert our customers printed letterhead into a vector file (PLT) for our plotters. Most of the time i can build the logo faster using the bezier tool and editing nodes. Than playing with Trace. Anyway glad to see another guy using corel to play with boats.

Just a note that Volvo now provides very good two-dimensional drawings for all their engines available for download on their web site as DXF files.

There is also a blank left for 3d models to be supplied, though they are not available yet for the engines I looked at. Still it looks very good as far as 3d blocks being available soon from them, and I like how easy Volvo makes it to download a drawing of the engine of your choice in a few seconds - instant information
