Lovely dory! It would be a shame to mess it up by adding fiberglass globs on each side. Is that a lateen sail on the Hobie? A bipod mast even? Put a small sail on the dory..I mean really small like an opti sail. If the dory is insufficiently stable, then add some removable inside ballast. The dory will stiffen pretty good when it is loaded. Banks style dories are not the best of sailing boats in any case. I feel your pain about sitting on the tramp. Hobies are for the young and restless. Leave the infernal thing on the trailer.

The idea of making a tri of the two boats might sound appealing. It might even sail, with some luck. I reckon it will be a bear to tack, what the hell, the Hobie is already a bear to tack. I think it would be better to leave both boats as they are. It would not be much more work to build a comfortable boat in the first place. Maybe something like Paysons little cat boat or some other simple, wide chined, dinghy with a flat floor. A sharpie would be an option for ease and economy of construction. You could use the lateen and bipod. That would work better than the monster you are contemplating. Damn sight easier to launch and retrieve too.

Wouldn't the sailor in ya get annoyed by having a power boat in your space.
    Jus funn'in.
I'd have to admit the sail boats pretty to.

How long is your dory? I'd think you'd want the center hull to be LONGER than the 2 side hulls on a tri...DEFINITELY makes it a bit easier to steer that way. Looks more like a monster than a pleasure to me....but that's just me.
Oh, and by the way, at LEAST ditch the lateen if you're going to persist in this route...use something with the height & sail area to take at least MARGINAL advantage of your righting moment if you're gonna build a tri....

...but hey, those are just my opinions...everyone has one.
