    Hello Design Gurus -

I have minimal design experience with small dinghies, but recently acquired a couple small row boat molds (dinghies, not sculls). Several are just the hull molds, and I am wondering if there are any rules of thumb for where to mount seat & oarlocks, or is it easier to just pop out a hull and figure it out by trial & error? Thanks for any insights - John

    Hi,
normally ,for oar on gunwhale rowing, the seat is seven inches below the rowlock and if the seat is about nine inches wide then the oarlock is set about eleven inches aft of the aft edge of the seat. This works for most people in most situations and is a good starting point for your project.
Best of luck with the project.
