Designing a boat

Hi, someone asked me to develop a 3D drawing of the boat including details on how to build one. Since I don't have any previous experience in the boat industry, I'm hoping someone here can help point me to the right direction.

A few questions:

1) Are there design/structural standards that we should follow when designing a boat?

2) Are there formal 2D drawings available that I can use as reference?

3) What cross-section shape of keel is suitable for 50' to 60' boat? (Note: the keel is my first project)

1. yes. It depends on the type of boat. What is it.

2. There might be. Again it depends on the bat. What is it.

3. Whoa! Again, not enough info. We need to know a lot more about this boat.

It's a single mast sailboat, somewhat similar to :

There's no ballast at the end of keel. The rudder will probably look different than what's shown in the picture.

Are you ready for a 3 to 5 year learning curve? Knowing how to model (how to use rhino or something similar) is only a few weeks job. Knowing what to model (design, naval architecture, engineering, regulations) will take few years. Leave it to professionals or become one.

If he/she like to have a small early -80's sailboat just buy one, they are cheap nowadays.
