Good thread Richard.

For the most part I think those involved with boating realise that designing / building is not as simple as it sounds.

I think there are too many that has no clue, gets a bee in the bonnet and hell or high water is going to do this himself - the cheap, quick and uninformed way. You know the argumant, what possible can someone else know that I don't already.

The problem is when this guy succeeds - kind of. The boat floats but has a few hidden problems never mentioned and it could become somone else's problem.

Thanks Fanie.

Well that was the intention, to avoid the cheap, quick and uninformed way of doing it. A way, unfortunately, even choosen by "experts" sometimes.

Richard

Here's a pretty awesome thread that shows what can happen when 'no clue, gets bee in the bonnet'. (might be a re-post)

Even on the trailer it doesn't look right. Looks more like a building than a boat.

Just did a search for this. Didn't see it anywhere. I think it would be good to post in its own thread. Should be required reading for everyone here!

thanks Apex. Was a little surprised I didn't see it.

Maybe doesn't hurt to drive it home.

Thanks for the post and links guys.

Larsson and Eliasson's Principles of Yacht Design has a description of the design spiral also, and he lays his book out accordingly.

The test of a description of the design spiral is "can a team of designers work together effectively and efficiently while following it?" Anyone with any experience attempting working in teams with a formal description of the process?
