| sorry Will but PMM comp still dont turn my lights on, say again plz what where comp as i'm alway's interested in seeing new thoughts but as it is allready happy seeing a few winners back now for "Is the Design Competion usefull" i'm not so sure it often appears a publicity hype, sure would be good to have the specs rite but feel a bit fooled to see a round tube with oars recomended for taking the stress of the daily rat race |

| Another choice might be.... " Yes, and my firm may participate " I have submitted entries to a few design contests over the past 25 years, to my memory I don't think any have ever been published......oh well Long ago Yachting World and later Cruising World ran a design contest every year. They always published the top 3 designs (prize winners) plus a good selection of also-rans. These contests where usually intended to publicize the work of unknowns, yet they usually received entries from well known designers. As for garnering entries; much depends on the contest requirements, if they aren't very interesting or challenging....what's the point? The recent WoodenBoat/Proboat contest is a case in point...they reported 70 entries, it was an interesting challenge. The 2008 Westlawn/Passagemaker contest requirements could be met by a stock Bayliner.....no technical requirements at all. I haven't heard a word on the results of that one? Yes, I was disappointed that my entry in the WoodenBoat/ProBoat contest received no ink, that doesn't mean I haven't thought about Design Challenge II, mostly because it is an absorbing puzzle of technical requirements. I will self publish my contest entries on my website at some point. Oh ya.....the judging is totally biased..... ![]()

I seriously agree. It take countless of hour to give a good set of blueprint for a contest, this hours can be at better use to design the boat and find a client. The Internet is the real source of good return and profitable advertising. As for the Bayliner, at the matter of fact every contest want a Bayliner or a Beneteau at the end. A panel is not a good thing, the are at the end giving a plain vanilla result. No room for innovation, or to be diferent than the "expected" Cheers Daniel |

| A panel or committee usually gives a plain vanilla result but if each judge was asked for their private opinions, it make decisions less affected by group think. I hope that is what PBB did. Is there another reasonable method of judging than having several judges?
