| I do believe that will do the job. About the closest you can come to green with ships is a biodiesel generator with an electric drive system. This propulsion is about as efficient as you can get without going with a miniature nuclear propulsion system. It all depends on how green is defined. Consider the region as well. Operating near Antarctica may limit you to certain fuel sources. I presume diesel is the most commonly used fuel next to fuel oil (larger, older ships). |

| That is correct. The statement about the "biodiesel" just to some extend. It is not uncommon, that the vegetable oil production and collection, can consume half of the energy content in these oils. But that is another thread and must not be discussed here. |

| Yes, with whale oil one could conceivably remain on station indefinitely. The Japanese sure do have some unique food fetishes. A friend in Australia had a huge duck farm. Her main customer was Japan. Not so much for the ducks, but for their eyes (duck eye soup). Imagine being raised just to have your bloody eyes ripped out! ![]() |

| Love 'em. My driller on an oil rig in Oklahoma brought some to work one day, and offered them to the California hippie (me). I scarphed 'em down, and he gave me some more. When I'd gone through almost all of them, he asked me with a big grin, "do you know whut them things is?" I said, "sure; they're mountain oysters. Or prairie oysters; whatever." And he goes, "yeah. Thet's what they call 'em. But do you know whut mountain oysters is?" I said, "sure," and told him. He threw his hands in the air and stomped off, saying, "I cain't believe ah wasted th' whole ten dollars worth on thet worthless, no-good, !@#$'ing @#$%^&!!!" ![]() ![]()
