people have crossed oceans in all sorts of mad craft. its not the ships, its the men in em , as the old saying goes.
have you;
crossed a large distance of sea in nasty weather?
sailed , capsized and raced a variety of dinghies?
i have and have some idea of the forces involved. the most seaworthy and managable small sailing yachts are mini 6.5 racers i have spoken to people who have done the mini transat and seen them sailing and am very impressed by their strength speed and ease of handling.
speed means you get going in light airs rather than wait for a storm and get trashed.

It is quite an interresting statement.

Since you have such an experience we will talk "speed"

Slow boat waiting for the storm in the middle of the Atlantic by light wind: speed 2 knots

Fast boat waiting for the storm in the middle of the Atlantic by light wind:speed 3 knots

Whao, the speed boat surely will not get trashed

My friend you need to revise you thought about sailing boat, and go sailing its good for the soul.
Anyway why are you afraid of bad weather? If you went, as you said, in nasty waether (nasty is force 6) you should love it, because when it will hit you at 9 you will be terrified to death.

And the most manageable and safe boat is the boat well design and well built for the purpose intended. Period.

Stonedpirate is going nowhere, but his challenge is interresting to discuss in the forum.
Evening are sometime long and cold here in Maine

Be sure to take a map of Davy Jones' Locker. That is where dingy will end up.

Times change, and things are somewhat tense in many areas of the world.
I dont think its changed at all. From the age of sail, savage cannibal tribes and disease were the norm. Then in the golden days of pleasure cruising during the 40's and 50's rich people were lying back on their yachts in the thick of world war 2. The world has always had wars, pirates, terrorists, disease and laws that want to **** with adventuring gypsy peasants. If anything, with todays technology and access to information, world travel has never been safer or easier. Relatively speaking...

Maybe we should keep the thread about how to cross an ocean in a boat the size of a dinghy and leave the other stuff about Armageddon, the Illuminati and the price of gold to other threads please...

lol

Sorry if you fear the world so much.

Adventurers die young. Cowards die old and bored.

I got the exact same thing when i rode my bike around australia. Motorbikes are dangerous, you will get road rash or decapitaed. Australia is not safe anymore, you will get bashed and murdered on the road. lol

Same with surfing, everytime i go out some fuckwit talks about great white sharks and rip tides.

StonedPirate, you have a good point there. Any authority will very quickly find out, that they are dealing with somebody who is trying to lodge a record. It is human that everybody wants to be associated with succcess and not with failure. They most likely will help you more then anybody else. As long your papers are 100% in order and also the ships documents. You may be surprised, in how much help you will get. This thread shows you.

I must have missed the part about the Illuminati fuckwits and Armageddon but I did catch Hoyt's discouraging remark

Hoyt
lets get with the program
I got first dibs on the will and if things work out as planned then I just might be building a bit sooner than anticipated.
please
do not discourage this guy

Stoner
Im sorry Hoyt had to go and be like that
its probably just a left over from the climate thread

as for me
if there is anything I can do to help please just sing right out
Im on your team brother
best of luck

let me know when your lawyer needs my information
its important to take care of the details before you go

cheers
B

oh hey
a prolonged incarceration clause might be in order
what do you think
maybe run it past the lawyer dude

Boston, you have a boat to built yourself.
Remember your post?
And if I remember well the picture, I will be very honnored to come sailing (motoring) on this magnificient yacht.
So get started, I am old and before I am on a wheel chair, I want to see that happens.

Stoned, get your deathtrap built as quickly as possible and get out on the oceans. I'll contribute to the wreath.

Hopefully we can then revert to sensible conversation.
