Creating plans of existing tender

hello all,

I would like to ask some help. I would like to create new line drawings and build plans of an existing 32 foot tender.Has anyone here done this before, got some tips, help etc. All will be welcome.

Get a book on yacht design, almost any book, it should have an explanation of the "table of offsets". When you understand the relationship between a "lines plan" and the "table of offsets" you are ready. If the boat is out of the water set it up level, I try to get the waterline horizontal, you then set up some string lines, mark out say 10 stations equal distances along the length and measure your offsets. If you are keen you can then use these to reproduce the shape in a yacht design program and work out the hydrostatics. I've done it several times so I could compare shapes with my own design or when planning to make ballast changes. I'ts a time consumer.

you can take photos of the side, top, stern, and bow. make all the photos to the same scale a computer. Then using the photos as reference, draw the lines you need to make the surfaces. With a good eye and a bit of tweeking, you will get a e-model simular to the boat.

From this e-model you can then run marine stats to get other information to compare to the original boat. (surface area can be caluclated to weight for a comparison)

TouchCad is good at this sort of thing. Maybe other programs also.
