600 hp and 6000 kg, probably not very low CO2 emission.

Morro, " not very low" CO2 emission. Did you counted greenhouse flatus gases of two big guys?

Very interesting blending of design elements. The overall boat had to grow on me a bit before I was involved the way I like to be with the design of a new boat. Granted, I have a smaller involvement with strictly enigine powered craft, but after looking at the last half of the video a few times, I found myself really enjoying the lines of the boat and their projected sense of movement.

I really like the use of automotive features (retractable roof and power windows) as they are integrated in the design. I'd like to see more boats using the massive engineering that has gone on in the car business over the years. I feel that many features can be successfully integrated within boating applications, as long as the designer is careful as to how far the cross pollination is taken.

Along those lines, this boat is tasteful and just a bit restrained, while still retaining a decent level of the in-your-face presence that a machine of this type should generate.

I've been thinking about this a bit as we get closer to summer here. It used to be getting out on the water in whatever form felt like getting closer to nature, but now powerboats have a negative stigma attached as if powerboaters are just pouring gasoline into the water. And yet...
Quote:
In 1996, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) examined marine engine emissions in the hopes of regulating them and cutting the amount of hydrocarbon emissions in the country. They found that all marine engines combined account for only 3 percent of the total hydrocarbon emissions in the U.S., Automobiles account for 33 percent, non-road sources 7 percent, and industry accounts for 57 percent. They also found that the impact of the exhaust from marine engines on the water was not large enough to warrant additional regulations.
Enjoyed watching the video of this boat.

polutants (like Apex 1 Steamer)

Jeff, I am kind of extremist (extremist are never goed solution)when goes about pollution, nature and environment. I am not tolerant person if you use powerful engines for speed, exhibitionism and fun. In your statistics we could not find how much CO2 emission on the global niveau is because of bad habit of Americans which have no respect for nature. If you kill one man you just say "he kills 10 people" and your soul is free.

Try to keep the politics and nation bashing under wraps...this is a forum on boats and related subjects. Being green is a good thing...and as it relates to boating and building is fine. Nix the other stuff and lets try to keep things civil

Steve

PS: Oh...and one industrial plant that uses Dry Ice emits more CO2 than all the boats used in the country...any country...combined in a year. You see it goes straight from solid to gas and no one even notices.

Is that last "fact" boat related and open for discussion? If so, any references to start with?

You're right about nation and boat design. Dry Ice sublimation is not sublime at all.

simple observation...we use tons of the stuff every day in a simple meat packing plant and it all goes....where...in one plant (I work there to see it)...in one industry....in one country...blah...blah...blah...! My point is that the boating that WE do adds a minimal amount of nasty stuff compared to the VAST majority of industrial gasses pumped into the atmosphere. Any help is appreciated but really is negligible compared to what we consume as products of the industries that we support every day with our unknowing and uncaring consumption. If you want to bitch about things there are better and more influential areas than here to do it. The amount of greenhouse gasses produced by the folks on this forum and any other forum I lurk on are about par with the amount created by only a VERY few of the GREENEST industrial plants in the world combined. Most of us here are VERY concerned with the medium that we interact with, the environment that it exists in and the impact we leave when we are done. I personally want to be able to go back to someplace I have sailed/motored in and find it just like I left it...be it the next year or a couple of decades later.....

So...to the point...That boat, even with it's enormous engine is only a miniscule fraction of the problem. It may be used only a couple of hundred hours a year...how does that compare to an engine of three times the HP being used continuously for an entire year....using diesel, pumping out soot along with CO2 and all the other nasties and providing the power to make....cosmetics...or,,,plastic containers...or condoms....or ....or....or

Steve

PS: I may not be able to provide documented proof of the above statements...but be real and be honest...is what I say not reality...like it or not?
