Chines, effectiveness and placement

For my final year project at University I am going to design and build three model mini transats 6.50 and concentrate the research on the effect that the chine has on the boats speed, righting moment and ability to track or "get in the groove"

I was wondering if anybody here has any thoughts on the effect the chine has and/or where I could look for more info?
