Center Board Design

I own a C&C 40 keel center boat. The center board needs to be replaced. It is made out cast iron and badly corroded. I am also consider a redesign using a wing keel insert in place of swing center board . Looking for input and possible place it could be built. I live in Florida. It weighs about 800 lbs.

It's likely the board can be reused after it's cleaned up and had a new bearing and pivot pin installed. A new board of steel wouldn't be my first choice as a replacement. I'd elect to make a board of 'glass with a lead weight.

Sure you can re-engineer the stub, to be a fin, but it would be a more costly way to do things. I wouldn't recommend a wing, but a bulb may offer some possibilities, though in a shoal draft configuration not a very good choice. Contact me by email for more information.
