Technically, dictionarywise, this qualifies as a boat. If it was a Corvette or a Cadillac , it probably wouldn't be so ugly.

I think this is what happens when you grow up with Legos and then discover NURBS.

    Legos are the perfect toy.

When a small boy I used to make hotels on wheels. A friend and I almost managed to build a Golden Gate Bridge out of them but sadly ran out of flat pieces before the bridge was finished. We used the arms from the old style lego people to connect the string we used for the cables.

Now, on topic, I will opine that it seems very difficult to pull off double rows of small windows (for one deck) and make them look good. It seems as true of an old design like Mollyhawk from 1913's Nine Motor Boats and How to Build Them and things seen in this thread. I don't know if it's just too busy looking or what, but there just seems to be a point when more is merely more.

    I win . . .

No kidding, here's his FreeShip drawing of the project. I think he's doing a miniature version of the each animal, 2 by 2 thing . . .

I can only assume the raised aft deck area is to keep her into the wind?

Manie's boat is designed like that to maximize beer storage.

I know, we probably shouldn't pick on Manie, as he's too likeable.

Which could explain the desire to keep her small enough for just one: no one else to drink all your suds.

(Insert joke about going fishing with just one Baptist/Mormon/Muslim/etc friend here)

Now that you mention beer, the hull does have some keg-like qualities about it. I think the raised portion might be where he sleeps. I've not heard of beer ballast before. Hmmmm......

Keep up the good work Manie. Hope you don't mind a mild jab. I don't know if it's possible build a boat to your list of SOPs and not have a little ugly-duckling-ness about it. :D

TBH I can't see the point of boats like that. I think ten feet is too short for a one person sailing dinghy, let alone anything else. About the only reason for building one is "mine's smaller than yours" syndrome, which is really just a thinly disguised "mine's bigger than yours" syndrome since both are based on upstaging others.

    Anyway, whatever.

Often good info is reaped from both the build and the voyage. As for the voyager look at it like mountain climbing the logic of it makes no sense but what the hell the opportunity presents itself so why not do it. You're only going this way once. :D

Yes I know all that. It's just not my preferred type of insanity. I'd be more inclined to look at the problem as "Ok, I need X amount of displacement to carry Y amount of minimal stuff, so what's the best envelope for X amount of displacement?"

Trying to cram it all into the minimum possible LOA, just for the sake of saying you have the minimum possible LOA, seems to be shooting yourself in the foot from the perspective of actually getting a decent boat out of the exercise.
