Anyone who leaves Big Ti out of this conversation is missing maybe the best looking sailing yacht ever designed. This modified shrunk down version of America is the perfect example of a thing of beauty is a joy forever.

    Frank,

Here are shots of Roberts 65 for sale, you're right, a beauty. Reminds me of the Frers/Swans; simplicity of line, but immediately creating a sense of beauty.

I must be getting soft ....

I think I must be getting soft I look at all the boats posted and I think they all have merit in one form or another sure I have my soft spot for a couple of them but if I was going to be out there on the water where anyone of these boats are I would be happy with them. :D
I need to get out on the water just for a little while ;)

    Fatiniza

Portuguese 'Fatimitza' - «tell me, why does the keel slope downwards so?»

This design was a wonderful compromise between capacity, speed, and the possibility of easily bringing it to the beach, or even to the streets, during bad weather, as it happened frequently in Sesimbra, a small portuguese fishing village with no port untill mid 20th century.

I think the name of this 'canoa' is Fatiniza.

    Canoa da Picada

The Canoa da Picada had between 45 and 60ft; it is not manufactured anymore; I am starting a blog about this boat at:
    http://canoadapicada.blogspot.com/

Later I will post the building plans.

The name, as you can see on the photo posted on post 64 is "Fatinitza" (the m is a typo).

Fatinitza is the name of an Ópera by Franz Von Suppé (1876).

Farinitza is the name assumed by a Cavalaty Lieutenant when disguised as a girl....Funny story, funny Ópera.;)

The shape of the keel sloping downwards is not exclusive of that boat. Some traditional French boats from Bretanha (France) have a similar design. I believe that design prevents the boat to dig the bow into the waves in heavy seas (the bow is rather slim for a traditional boat), and as Aldeia as already said, it permits that a boat with some draft (for a traditional boat) comes near the beach for unload. The deep keel gives a better upwind performance to this Canoa, compared with other traditional Portuguese Canoas with not so deep keel, like this one.

I would like to help but I have difficulty in understanding what you want.

If it is a traditional design that you can build, it is possible (What size?). Our Maritime Museum sells the plans of the boats they have and can make plans of any of the models (hundreds) that are exposed. It is not expensive.

About seaworthiness of those boats, I have made thousands of miles on a Canoa (7,5m) similar to the one I have posted above (with some keel and ballast modifications).

If you express yourself better in French, Portuguese, Spanish or Italian, e-mail me and tell me what you want exactly.

    Some other Portuguese traditional boats:
