    I guess it's a clever phrase, but I do not understand.

    Tansl, that's an old time American expression , sometimes said humorously, sometimes seriously. It implies that the pot (person) is as guilty of transgression as the kettle (the other person). It is not necessarily the same transgression.

    Let this one slide. Oops, that is another American expression that means forget it and no harm is done to either party.

    Hey, I'll bet we could start a whole new thread to compare expressions of Spain, Australia, South Africa, Italy, UK, and elsewhere. That might be both fun and educational. We could start by "splicing the main brace" which I believe is of British origin.
