That makes sense. The idea is not to go faster with sails and motor, but rather to go at similar speeds at better economy.

It comes back to sail force increasing with the square of the windspeed increase.

Think carefully about this Fanie, from my understanding a motorsailer should have significantly smaller sail area because of the apparent wind increase.

If the sails are not large or aerodynamic enough they will hinder progress to windward and also be uselessly small for downwind, The motorsailer is best with 50 / 50 sail and power and some might even argue for a little more sail. Think of it like an airliner, big wings and massive power to take off and then throttle back and cruise. In this case, the answer IS intuitive!

Thanks Pericles, I have in fact e-mailed Brian a week ago when I've read through his pages, but no response - probably thought I was a loony ;)

I think the idea of a motor/sailor is to use either motors or sails. You'll have a power boat that can sail, depends on what you want to use under different conditions.

    Hi Tuks, thanks for asking.

On the moment not too good. I'm snowed under with too much bloody work.

I (we) suspect there may be something wrong with the epoxy we used since it feels like plastic and did not cure for some reason. Yes, we did mix the stuff the right way.

Anyway, we'll resume shortly to get the rest of it done. You have to be patient. You heard them say it takes years to build :D

Will post some photo's when someting happens.

Happier days  A couple of tigerfish cought at Jozini dam. I have yet to find a sea fish that puts up a competing fight to that these tigers do

    portable cat hull

Hello, two trailers will put off quite a few people. Have you considering an 8' wide and trailerable version that you could float off the trailer and then pull the two pontoons apart on 2 telescoping beams. Also a thought-several camp trailer manufacturers have systems to raise and lower their trailer walls which could be done with the cabin. Just some thoughts, stan

Hi Stan, thanks for the thought. The Boxy Catamaran is not intended for manufacturing purposes, it's just us crowd that will go fishing from her. We are always taking two or more vehicles and two trailers will work just fine for us.

Hi Yipster, I have found an anchor I like. See pic, if you however think it's not suitable please comment.
