The true issue isn't if a wooden trailer could be engineered, it certainly can (think paralam) but the point is, can it be registered, which appears not too likely, making it a moot, if not quant, point.

Depends on where you are in the country. I could walk into the local DMV and get a "home built utility trailer" licence that has a capacity of under 2000 lbs or 2 tons (I forget which) for $10, no inspection or anything.

Steve, the original post is from above the boarder, in Quebec, which doesn't permit wooden boat trailers. I find it had to believe they (Iowa) wouldn't require a registration number be affixed to a home built anything that was going over the road, regardless of capacity. If it carries a tag . . . Maybe in Iowa this is true, but major metropolitan areas will nix the idea in a heartbeat, particularly if it was rated for carrying over a ton.
