Boat design costs..

I was wondering how it works as far as cost when sitting down with a designer and having him spec out a boat you want to build....The boat will be a 18-20 ft center console very basic...Something along the lines of a Hampton pulsifer and an Amesbury Dory....No keel.It will be an outboard...Also I do not need him to have it built...I will be building it...

Normally, design fee is 6-10% of construction cost of the boat. Bigger numbers refer to smaller boats.
