Best Yacht Design Book ?? Hello everybody, I was searching for the Yacht designer Bible. I see plenty of books, I would love to have the money and time to buy them all and read them all, but it's not the case. If everybody had to choose 1 book to be considered as the ultimate Yacht Designer Bible for application to sailboats. Which one would you choose ? That would be interesting to have a poll on this. Thanks

Yacht design books I read the current edition when I was a student, and I think it is really good for sailing yachts. “Aero-Hydrodynamics of Sailing” by C. A. Marchaj is also very good.

The principles of yacht design is among first recommendations whenever someone asks about a boat design book. What are other good books out there?

Skene's Elements of Yacht Design (By Francis Kinney) is another very good one...Covers most of the basic stuff. Steve PS: Thanks for the info on "Principals"...I have 2 copies of the old one, so I should get one of the new ones too.

I know that it is not a pure yacht design book but it is still a book that all yacht designers should have in their library. Marchaj - Seaworthiness, the Forgotten Factor, if you don't have it, buy it Mikey

"Sailing Yacht Design:Theory" "Sailing Yacht Design: Practice" by A. R. Claughton (Author), R. A. Shenoi (Author), J. F. Wellicome (Author). These are out of print with no suggested reprint date. They are also outrageously expensive and badly edited with no end of missing details and badly labelled diagrams. They are a collection of papers from a lecture series and as such are useful supplementary reading once you know what's what, but I don't think they in themselves comprise a coherent and even usable single source text book. But still no definite word on the third edition of 'Larsson and Eliason'.

CT249 is writing a book (slowly ). I have read a few of the chapters and there is a lot of interesting stuff in it. It pulls together interviews with top dinghy designers and charts the evolution of racing dinghies over the years. When its finished it should be great. |
