Hey all.
For planing boats there are the Savitsky papers but what books/papers do you recomend for the design of displacement to semi-planing hull forms such as used in luxury-cruisers and power-cats.
Also, the same question again for sailboat hulls?

You might get along with the regression methods by Holtrop and Mennen (1982) and Holtrop (1984). They are indended to be used for commercial vessel hulls with or without a bulbous bow and Fn < 0.4, with the latter being an upgrade of the '82 version with an improved formula for estimating wave resistance at Fn < 0.4 and additional formulae for speeds of up to Fn = 0.7.

Compared to some other methods the hullform is captured very precisely so one can examine the effects of various single characteristics of the design (waterline entry angle, stern shape, lcb, cb, etc.).

For sailing yachts there is the so-called "Delft Series" developed by Gerritsma and others with several revisions to account for lighter and faster modern yachts (up to Fn = 0.6 if I remember correctly).

I disagree that these methods capture the hull form "very precisely" because they only deal with hull parameters, not the actual shape of the hull.

Furthermore, the empirical formula you mentioned are not physics-based, so they are limited in many ways.
