I've looked at quite a few on line and though I am quite knowlegable about small/tiny diesels my experise lacks on the big ( to me) diesels that will be in the boats I'm looking at.

If anyone can be so kind as to give a little info that would help a ton.

MP:He's looking for an older boat...not brand new diesels.

Cummins/John Deere would be perfect,beware the smaller Cats as they have had issues,you may find Lehmans etc etc but I know little about them.
Google the engine to see if many issues,join a forum,etc


Have the engines checked by a pro,get oil samples done etc.
If you're spending $100k on the boat,it would be bad news if you need to spend huge $$$ in the nearish future.

If you come to the point of finding your boat with big older diesels try boatdiesel.com site and check out those diesels on a post or from there past records. You may have to join site but well worth it if you are going to mess with bigger motors lots of practical and often profesional help there.

If possible,go during the weekdays..like today,tomorrow and friday to avoid the crowds.
I'm leaving soon... it's a 1 minute walk to the Granville Island ferryboat.
