Backing plates/chainplates dimensioning

Hi,
Supposing I have to design a deck hardware's backin plate, or a chainplate, how can I calculate pressure distribution? I know the force on the bolt, now what? I think it's wrong to divide the force roughly by the plate area, because pressure is much higher near the hole..so do you have any more sofisticated method for scantlings calculations of backin plates?
