Azimuth and Voith Tug reliability

First i want to introduce my self, my name Thomas one of Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology. I studying in Naval Architecture Department. This year i want to finish my final project about " which one is the most reability between ASD tug and Voith Tug".
I hope you want to fill a questionnaire to rate the best tug for FSRU.

Thank you for your concern.

Location: Conn in summers , Ortona FL in winter , with big dock & room for O'nite stop .
The reliability key seems to be picking a unit with more Torque ability , rather than selecting by HP rating .

Reliability

Is always the result of good design, good parts and good assembly by the manufacturer.

Efficiency is what happens after you start the engines for the first trip.

To the original poster:

There are plenty of papers addressing both reliability and manoeuvrability of different drive types. Check conferences hosted by SNAME, or Tugnology, or even OTC.

I think you need to clarify what you mean by "reliability". Are you talking just MTBF? Are you considering MTTR? What about local availability of service support or spare parts?

As for the manoeuvrability issue, the drives are only one part of the equation. The arrangement of the drives also plays a large part. For the azimuthing drives, are you considering only stern drive configurations, or also tractor configurations? What about the "Roto-tug" configuration? Likewise for the Voith units, what configurations are you considering?

Which is better, is usually a very personal, biased decision.

At least when someone asks me a question like that.

If they add a bunch of mandatory operating conditions then I get very selective about my decision.

Which ship is better ? QE2 or a US aircraft carrier.

If we are cruising in Somalia waters.

You need to do a trade study. Google is your friend on how to do a trade study.
