Hi there,I'm trying to find plans for an atkin mink in steel or a similar,I'm familiar with most of the easily googled designers and am really just fishing around for some more options, what is involved in translating a older wooden design to multichine steel,is this something a competent designer could do?
I imagine that a heavy displacement hull like a mink or similar would translate well to steel.
    Cheers folks

Obviously it is not going to be the same boat in multi-chine developable form, you might as well select a boat of similar proportions that is already available, I'd say.

    Welcome to the forum.

Making a wood to steel conversion isn't difficult and is a common request. Mink is a pretty fat puppy, though converting round bilge to rolled plate, radius chine or multi chine means pretty much a whole new design, once everything is said and done. This is also a very old design and there are many much newer double enders, that you might want to look over first.

To directly answer your question, yes, a conversion is possible and not very costly on many designs. This is more than a simple conversion, so expect to pay a little more.

Thanks PAR,I appreciate the info,I'm 100% into a modern take on a heavy displacement double ender in steel.I have just suggested the mink as its a personal favourite of mine and one that embodies lots of the features that appeal to me.
    Cheers
