| Aluminum strengths Hello All On a Frame member in steel it calls for 2" x 1/4" flat strip, in the plans to convert to aluminum it calls for 2-1/2" x 5/16" in a 5086 or 5083 grade. Now if I wanted to convert that to 5052 H32 and use a L shape. Yesterdaay I experimented a bit and sheard a 5" wide strip of 3/16" 5052 and broke an L shape at 3" , so the frame itself would be 3-3/16" tall with a 2-3/16" wide flange . Now my farm code engineering skills tell me the L shaped would be the strongest LOL but not sure there. Anyone know the actual strength differance there? Thanks Tom |
