Location: North America (not USA and not Mexico but, below the 49th parallel, and on the Pacific coast)
Rule #1: Never build higher then the boat is wide.

Many years ago yacht designer Bob Wallstrom passed on to me the 3 most important rules of successful boat design......1) Watch your weights, 2) Watch your weights, 3) WATCH YOUR WEIGHTS!...........

Bob worked at Luders Marine, Phillip L. Rhodes, and John Atkin's office before starting Brewer and Wallstrom with Ted Brewer.

Sure. In general, it's better not to build your boat any higher than it is wide. So, if you have a 10 foot beam, best not to build any part of the structure higher than 10 feet. It's a pretty general rule and very basic but I thought it appropriate for the "101 Boat Design Principles".
