what is the best

i am very interested in building a hydroplane, just something for a beginner. would it actually be best to still be built in wood. also having looked at a couple(not very good copies though) of designs im not sure which would be best. there is the mini max, minimost and x-1. the x-1 actually looks nicest but im not sure if would be too complicated for a beginner and take too long. i can work on 4-5 hours a day. or are there any other plans/designs that anybody can share that is more up to date/looks nicer and isnt too much harder to build. i thank you all in advance
