| Removing pain from fiberglass Hi Everyone I recently bought a small boat which i'm fixing up... I was wondering if there's an easy way to get the paint of the fiberglass hull... As this is my first boat, and tips and advice would be welcome. for now i've just been sanding it down but this takes ages... Many Thanks. |

| If you don't already, I strongly suggest a decent respirator rather than just cheap masks. Good ones with a valve set and filter cartridges can be a little easier to breath in, and provide more protection than the cheap single use ones. If your budget allows, I also strongly suggest a forced air respirator. I've used some, and honestly unless you have to move a lot in random tight spaces, then dealing with the supply cord is worth the cool air washing over your face while you work and breath normally. |

| Luckless, that is a good piece of info right there. I have one of those which has replacable filters. I'm working outside for now so I think its ok. once the boat reaches the stage where I'll need to move it inside for drying etc, I think i'll get one of those forced air respirators. |

| Use an orbital sander (I use a 150mm professional Bosch model) with 80# Abranet type sanding discs. Goes easy and fast sanding down fiberglass, wood etc.. Stay away from normal paper / carborundum type of sanding discs - they do not last and clogs up easily and a waste of time and money. With the Abranet discs you just peel off, whack the dust out or blow through it with compressed air to clean, stick back and they go on forever. When not up to the job anymore, the old discs are saved for finishing sanding since they are now "smoother". Hope this helps.
