| refurbishing a 14 ft boat rated for a forty need help with transom I am thinking of epoxying 6 X 1 oak boards together to get a total of 16 inches. My next option would be to epoxy three layers of 1/2 inch marine plywood. What would be best. the frame is all solid oak. |

| The latter, an inch and a half of plywood. Using two 3/4" pieces will also work and save a bit of epoxy. Hardwoods would exert too much strain on the epoxy, comprimising the bond by way of shear stresses if (and especially when) the wood absorbs a bit of water, while plywood simply gets a bit damp. |
