outboard not short enough!

Hi there
Just wondering if anyone has tried cutting the leg right down on a small (8-15hp) outboard?
Looking to mount one under the cockpit of a 26ft sports yacht and dont want it taking up space in the busiest part of the boat!
Is it just the exhaust and drive shaft running down the leg or is it more complicated than that I wonder...
