open the transom for a walk-thru

I have a 31 ft 1983 sailboat with a propane locker under the rear seat.I want to open this locker and its floor is the same level as my existing floor. I only want to open it as wide as the boarding ladder. I will have to cut the coaming and some transom not much. I know about the split rear stay. I'm wondering about any forces on the sides once the transom is open.Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Keep it up,
Ctskip
