If you want something simple, try a Wharram. Tornados are high perfomance complex boats.

The difference if huge, even if they might appear similar to a guy who doesn't know how to evaluate and compare sailboats - like you admittedly do.

Wharrama are wooden hard-chine double-enders, designed for ease of build and handling:

You can find the design plans here: http://wharram.com/site/node/40

Tornado is a grp round-bilge, transom-stern speed machine which requires experience both for handling and for building:

The dimensions and templates for Tornado can be found here (class rules): http://www.tornado-class.org/class/class-rules.htm
or here, for wooden construction: http://www.thebeachcats.com/index.ph...2_itemId=11015

If I were you, I'd follow Gonzo's advice and would go for a Wharram. You'll be able to learn a lots about boat-building and will get a vessel on which you'll learn to sail in ease.

Cheers!
