New Boat Build in Sydney Gday everyone, Well I am taking on a massive project and will construct my own boat in wood epoxy. Its a 19 footer. I do have a question well one of many I am guessing. I live in Sydney Australia and am lookinf for a epoxy supplier. Also the question is what sort of epoxy should i use to coat the frames. I know very little about epoxy resins etc and any help would be great Cheers Archie

Archie, I hav'nt used bote cote but I hear its ok stuff, also west resins local supplyer is Caporns timber at Brookvale or ATL can send it strait to you & Fiberglass International/Nuplex have some nice epoxy that I've used heaps of, also Internationals Ht resins are ok too, you can get them at Whitworths & at B & E Supplys. Coming into summer your hardener choice will be important for working time thats long enough- its frustrating(& $ expensive) to see hard epoxy smoking in the pot & going to waste, also try to do resin coating & glassing on a falling temperature as a rising temp will cause the timber to blow bubbles . All the best from Jeff![]()

Epoxy Hello Archie I usually go with FGI - they have an office in Brookvale. Use the slow hardener for summer and keep your resin cool and your mixes small. You can also try AA fibreglass on 4954 6054 - very good prices on 20 litre packs. cheers Phil Thompson

| Hi, I've just started my first boat, a 12ft plywood sailing dingy. I'm using Bote-Cote - partly because I can drive down to thier headquarters in my lunch break and pick up anything I need. I'm pretty sure they will give you any help and information you need regarding products and techniques. I also bought their book Boatbuilding with Bote Cote. Speaking as a newbie, if you've never done this before it's the best five bucks you can spend.

Don't forget SP Systems in Mona Vale. I think they mostly supply larger builders but will sell to home builders as well. I've also used FGI in Brookvale. The problem I have with most of these suppliers is that they are only open on week days. Whitworths are open on weekends but charge more. Anyone got a good source for epoxy on weekends?

G/Day Archie, Mate I'm using Bote-Coat from Boatcraft Pacific on the boat I'm building at the moment. Give them a call the old fella Ian is really helpfull to be honest I can't complain about the service or the prices I'm paying for my epoxy as far as I can see they are selling to the public at factory direct prices. I'm not affiliated with them in anyway Just believe in supporting Australian owned and run buisnesses when I can. "As long as the goods are up to scratch" All The Best Gary

Well its all a go ahead, I have my plans now and am nearly ready to go. I do have a drama though with the frame. The plans I have dont give me dimensions. Is the frame normally the length of the entire boat or is it usually a frame or two short. It gives me a drawing of how to build it just no dimensions. The boat is 19' 3 inch and has 9 frames total plus the transom. Is there any literature on building the frame jig anywhere on the net cheers Archie
