| How to calculate the thickness of a hull? I would like to know What are the methods used to optimise the thickness of a strip planking hull. Thank you very much jb Delaunayjb@yahoo.fr |

| Dave Gerr's book has the scantling rules for two different methods. It includes Lords rules which give a flexible hull.

| Standard scantling rules Both ABS Offshore sailing yacht rules, and ISO 12215-1 cover wood. |

| JB --- Optimizing wood core / plastic cloth faced compostes is a rather long process. I know because I have done so. Dave Gerr and Tom McNaughton provide scantlings but not optimal (by any stated means) scantlings. The scantlings are simply a ratio of face material to core material and a scaling formula. Optimal may be all core if cloth or plastic are unavailable or it may be all cloth and plastic if wood is unavailable. |
