gelcoat or epoxie over glass

Im building a 32 ft spencer boat shes faired and glassed and ready; my intention is to gelcoat the hull ,,barriercoat and then bottom paint ,Is epoxie better than gelcoat?

Epoxy might be better underwater due to its superior water barrier properties, but if you use it topsides then you need to paint over it. UV will destroy it.
