Glad to help. Every time I read these EPA regs I learn something new. It helps keep my web site up to date.

    From IKE
The Perko vent shown is however, designed to comply with the current EPA standard for fuel systems.

This particular vent is not complaint with the new requirements as the Perko website specifically states that it is not

They have similar looking fillers with the FILLING vent not vented to atmosphere, that require the carbon canister etc.

The Perko vents indicated as SEALED fillers are compliant with the new regs

    so?
all fuel tanks should have manometre test, same as liferafts
if you have no idea what that test is google it
building under ABS or Veritas this is the test they ask for

It's not a question about testing, it's about time and fail frequency. Say a fitting fails approx every 60,000 hours, have six fittings and the rate is every 10,000 hours.. Keep it simple stupid KISS as they say..

Failure rate doesn't multiply as you say. If the median life of a fitting is 60,000 hours, that doesn't change because other fittings exist. Otherwise, only one fitting would be manufactured to keep the failure rating. Also, fittings have a much lower failure rate than 60,000 hours; that would only be about 7 years.

Higher math Gonzo :) ; single item failure rate / tems installed = total failure rate
Thou you absolutely right about fittings failing much more often giving even a better reason to avoid unnesessary fittings..
