A completely flat bottom wants to slide sideways in a corner (not good in small creeks and streams) and the side of the boat can bite the water in the slide (it's like hitting a wall), where as a little vee will roll the boat to the inside of the turn and make it corner better. It does not take much vee to achieve the roll. About an inch of rise on a 4' bottom will work good.

flat bottom and shallow vee

A shallow v adds strength to the bottom and stops a boat from sucking to a muddy shore, and a shallow v sits on a pebbly shore supported by the keel where as a flat bottom can be holed or damaged by rocks creating pressure points.
A shallow v bottom does not necessarily give a deeper draught that depends on the amount of boyancy related to the weight of the craft.

Your keel, Yes it will, but think about it like this... a flat bottom will always try to run flat and now you're in that corner sliding sideways and during the slide your keel is causing resistance. This resistance is going to try to cause the leading 'side' of your boat to be forced down into the water. Like pendulum, the keel turns into the fulcrum causing the boat to roll to the leading side.

You haven't said what you're going to use the boat for...
I would go for a shallow vee, but that depends.

I know I seem down on flat bottoms, but I have been thrown out of a few of them.

I'm assuming you're talking about the Red Sea.

Go with a shallow vee as long as you're going to be in shallow water and around flats.

If you are planning on going farther out, you may want to consider a little deeper vee. A deeper vee will give you a better ride when the water get rough.

I assume you are speaking of a power boat. if, on the other hand you are planning a sailboat there are many other aspects to consider. let us know if you are . . .
